The prose of the outstanding Russian writer Nikolai Leskov is very deep in
content and perfect in language.His name is on the same line with such
writers as L. Tolstoy and F. Dostoevsky. Now we are all
discovering this author with great interest.
The novel "Pamphalon" is written in a creative dialogue with Flaubert,
who published his "Miracle of St. Peter". Antonia". The Russian public was
delighted by Flaubert's adaptation of the Catholic legend. Leskov, however,
considered it necessary to acquaint the reader with the Byzantine legends,
which he considered the most subtle in spirit. The first to come out of his pen
 "Skomorokh Pamfalon".
For us (theatre workers), this story is a hymn to the theatrical profession. The
hustle and bustle of an actor's life often obscures the value that our profession
has for people. The story of the buffoon Pamphalon sheds
the veil of vanity, revealing to the stern eye of the hermit Yermiy
the redeeming essence of buffoonery and Pam himself
