the life of this famous family. The history of the institution dates back to 1900. It
was then that the People 's House was built on this site on the initiative of a prominent political and
a public figure — Countess Sophia Vladimirovna Panina. The building was erected
by architect Yu.Yu. Benois and opened in 1903 as the Ligovsky People's House.
