Born on June 28, 1949 in the village of Konevo, Altai Territory.

Honored Artist of the Russian Federation (1997). People's Artist of the Russian Federation (2009).

In 1969 he graduated from the acting department of the Gorky Theater School.

He worked as an actor in the Penza Regional Drama Theater.

In 1976 he graduated from the directing department of VGIK.
